Revision Implant Team

Frederik Ceyssens
Co-Founder and CEO
Frederik co-founded the Start Up ReVision Implant together with Peter, with great ambition and motivation. Together with the rest of the team he works hands-on on developing the intra-cortical visual prosthesis.

Maarten Schelles
CTO
Maarten Schelles obtained his Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from KU Leuven, Belgium, in 2020. The focus of his Master’s thesis was new signal processing techniques for stimulation artefact removal in neural spike sorting. He obtained his Electrical Engineering PhD at the MNS group under the supervision of prof. Michael Kraft in May 2025. He was awarded a Baekeland scholarship from the Flemish government, to conduct his research in collaboration with the company ReVision Implant. He has a strong interest in electronics and MEMS technology for medical applications. The main focus of his current research is the development of a high-resolution neural prosthesis for chronic stimulation of the visual cortex, to provide artificial vision for the blind.

Laurens Goyvaerts
CSO
Laurens works on the fabrication and characterization of the Occular implant and especially focuses on implant lifetime engineering.

Lara Merken
Manager preclinical and clinical testing
After having completed her PhD that involved testing our implants in rhesus monkeys, Lara is now focusing on translating the results to the clinic.

Laura Apolinario
Mechanical Engineering Team Lead
Laura joined our research team to work on the mechanical aspect of the Occular implant, focusing on testing setups and insertion techniques.
